Our expectations
Reporting to the Director, Accounting and Compliance, the Manager, Customer Payment Accounting will direct a team responsible for the accounting and operations associated with the company’s sales processing, including all forms of payment tendered by the customers, from authorization to settlement. Responsibilities include understanding of US GAAP (and eventually convert to IFRS) and Sarbanes Oxley, in addition to designing, producing, and explaining operational reporting and analysis to management. The role also provides financial insights, recommendations, and best practices.
Your role
- Supervise a team charged with ensuring financial best practices are implemented and followed, financial results are accurately recorded, reported, and analyzed to identify insights for decision making
- Supervise a team responsible for the preparation of the bank reconciliation and its accuracy.
- Interpret and apply both new and existing accounting guidance, card brand rules/regulations, PCI compliance and other privacy guidelines to various policy, and procedures and, when necessary, work with Technology and Operations to implement new processes resulting from new types of transactions or programs
- Analyze financial results to ensure amounts are properly recorded and reported, including the identification of dependencies and relationships for potential anomalies, as well as ensuring proper performance drivers have been identified and communicated with variance explanations
- Oversee accounting close activities associated with major financial statement lines for financial services, including bank card expense, credit card chargeback expense, gift card expense, bad check expense, cash over/short, gift card breakage, gift card liability, store and corporate cash accounts, and other receivables
- Lead and direct teams that perform sales audit tasks ensuring that all stores daily business is communicated and posted to the general ledger accurately and timely
- Provide customer service to the RONA network stores on major cash over/short variances, debit, and credit card issues, gift card issues, and check issues
- Ensure all SOC I Type 2 audit reports from service providers are received, reviewed, and any issues addressed
- Leverage payments data to track and report against key performance indicators for the performance evaluation of payments and payment providers
- Work cross functionally throughout the company to seek solutions to reduce customer friction and payment processing costs (least cost debit routing, credit card chargebacks, fraud, etc.)
The qualifications we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in administration, finance, or accounting
- CPA designation
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in an accounting or financial analysis role, including a minimum of 5 years of experience in sales audit and payment accounting role
- A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility
- Team player
- Self-motivated, results-oriented with a focus on delivering high quality work
- Very strong analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and multi-stakeholder collaboration skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results with tight deadlines
- Advanced skills with Excel
